Dubai Jobs Scams

Job Sites Scams

As you look for a job in Dubai, you will come across lots of websites that claim to offer a service that helps job seekers find a job. Many of these websites are, bluntly put, scams.

Here’s how an intelligent person might fall victim to these scams:

By searching online, you might end up in a very nice looking website and you will find a list of adequately named job positions, such as “Accountant,” “Project Manager,” “Human Resources Manager,” etc. You might then think to yourself, “Great! That’s exactly what I want to do.” So, you register, spend time filling out all the forms, upload your CV, and click “Apply”

Two days later, you receive a very positively sounding email that is written in a way to make you think that your application has been successful and all that is stopping you from securing a job interview and hopefully a job offer from Dubai is a relatively small fee that you have to pay to this website from which you applied for this job!

You may even be told that by paying this fee you are guaranteed to find a job or your money back. Then when you read the fine print or investigate deeper, you realize that they’ll honor this claim only after half a year had passed, if at all!

What do you get in return for your payment? Mostly, nothing of value to you.

Before you pay up, always know exactly what you are paying for and who you are dealing with.

Recruitment Agency Scams in Dubai

Many job seekers don’t fully understand the role of recruitment agencies. Recruitment agencies are not employers. Recruitment agencies work for employers. They help employers fill vacancies, and when they do that successfully, they get paid by the employer, not the job seeker.

Remember, job seekers are sellers and employers are buyers. In most cases, commission to the broker is paid by the buyer; with recruitment agencies and hiring there is no exception.

But because most job seekers are unaware of this relationship, they end up being taken advantage of.

Here’s how you might fall for a scam recruitment agency or agent:

You go to a popular online classifieds or a newspaper in Dubai and you advertise in the jobs wanted section. You put your email or your telephone number. Then, you receive a call from somebody who tells you that they are interested in getting you hired. You will naturally get excited and do as they say. Then, sooner or later, they will ask you to pay them!

At this point, you should realize that they are trying to scam you, and you should go wild on them.

  1. please dont go to MAYA GULF at AJMAN they will simply ask 300 aed, I am telling my own case and there was a guy called Md. Agha he is big lier , he will talk very frienly but after taking money he never respond to phone call, it is uselesss to pay 300 AED. so be careful you may convinced by seeing their office but all are fake only and do tell to your friend bcz its wastage of money and time.

  2. Yes Vinit you are right they also took 300 AED from me and promise me to get a good job but ultimately they cant arrange interview also. I just show your comment so I want to share my experience although mistakes happens to us but it should not happen to other job seekers.

  3. Hi all job seekers if you receive any call from Maya Gulf consultancy from AJMAN never visit they will charge 300 aed and will show rubbish things like assesment test and all . they are real fake because they never arrange interviews and once money is in their hand means they wont respond you in proper way also. Although these bastards make the office very nicely so that people can believe but all are just show case. There was was a guy called AGHA MAHOMMED, seems from Pakistan is real ass and bastard who used to promise in very real way and after registration this bastard never care about candidate and used to talk rubbish thing. So I have spend 300 aed because I was new to UAE so please dont waste your money at MAYA GULF AJMAN i dont have any idea about other consultancy.

  4. simon says says:

why o why are people still paying for these services…….

I know its hard to find work but DO NOT pay anyone for employment, they are RIPPING your money away from you without a care.

The only way to stop this is to spread the word locally, most of you are in the same circumstance, share with others your experiences AND get the word out there that SCAMS are out there to STEAL from you and your friends.

    DONT PAY

    FULL STOP

  5. simon says says:

most of the employers ie hospitality construction etc have their own recruitments centers

why dont we post the job sites that are decent to help those looking for work.

Positive action rather than just moaning about the bad ones.

  6. people must really be careful, all these stories that are being told of fake agencies taking advantage of desperate job seekers are true. I would like to belive that those that are suppoting the idea of paying to submit your cv are part of the scams.
the proper way is, the employer must pay the agent period.
*NB. ALL AGENTS THAT ASK FOR PAY FROM JOB SEEKERS ARE SELFISH AND EVIL.

    DUBAIJOBS.NET – THEY ARE A F****NG SCAM!!!! BEWARE PEOPLE!

I paid this Canadian Dubai recruiters to register and find a Dubai job. Paid them a registration of US$45 and a US$35 for the so called Dubai CV format. I have paid them because they mention it in their email that they are going to refund you in 6 months time if you cannot find a job with them. Guess what, 6 months came and no job and told them I want a refund and a lady b**ch named Juliana sadi that they can’t refund my money because I’ve made contact with an employer (contact my a**). I thought scams are only found in the United States……PEOPLE BEWARE THERE IS ALSO IN CANADA, here is the SCAM Company’s name – DUBAIJOBS.NET, 61 MANSBRIDGE CRESCENT, AJAX, TORONTO, CANADA L1Z OA8.

Complain filed to the Canadian Better Business Bureau – they did the follow up and concluded that they cannot force them to pay me back my money. CANADIAN BETTER BUSINEES BUREAU – you too are a SCAM change your f***ing name to CANADIAN WORST BUSINESS BUREAU OR CANADIAN USELESS BUSINESS BUREAU.

So, people beware – DUBAIJOBS.NET IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!

How you people was educated by my bad experience.

Please Don’t fall for this, this is a huge scam.
That lady sounded like with an American or Canadian accent but she insisted she is calling from INDIA and the number also looks like Indian… with calling cards available so easily these days… anyone can fall to their traps.

  14. Pankaj Mittal says:

While most of the things in the article are actually true, though I would like to emphasize on the roll of recruitment companies.

Most of the candidates actually don’t understand the roll of recruitment companies who generally work for employers only. Candidates should never expect any favors from recruitment companies in getting a job. The gray area is where candidates are mismatch for a profile and expect their case to be pushed somehow.

What do you thing about GULJOBSEEKERS. Their office is next to pakistan conslate in Bur Dubai. Big office and lots of staff. Are they helpers or scammers.

  32. Us,poor people, without work and fearing the expiration of our respective visit visas will be delighted to hear that one of our CV,s “got through” and will be interviewed soon. It’s our chance to prove our qualifications to prospected employers…only to be disheartened to realize that we are scammed.

These cruel people, thrives on preying on jobless people who only wished to have a decent and honorable work. How ironic.

    Shame on you.

May it bring forth bad tidings to you and your family, ten folds.

    • It is really hard or should I say impossible to distinguish the fake from the real ones. The only way you’re gonna know is by experience and thats not free. I wish such fake people perish and may they be sent to burn in hell for all eternity. Ameen.

Does anyone knows something about Gulf Job Guide? Are they legitimate or scam?

  49. Thank you so much for the information guys!I have received an email from “fastersky547@gmail.com” telling me that my resume has been shortlisted and I need to come to their office in ajman on feb 19, 2012. There is a location map attached, and it was near etisalat office. She told me to dial this number +971509771916 to confirm. When I came to that place, based on the location map, I called the number to find their office. It was located in the building named “Golden Fork” – mayagulf is the organization- 2nd flr, rm 201. The lady got my resume, then told me that I just have to undergo an interview with the Hiring manager in international city, but the job is very sure, and i just need to pay AED 500 for security deposit. I just told her that I have to talk to my friend first, then I went home.

Today, feb 25, 2012, at around 9:00 am, I called the number published in gnjobs4u.com

“Computer Operator, presentable, any nationality, with computer skills, required. Call 055-5402137.”

The name of the person I’ve talked to is Hanah, and she told me to go to Sharjah, same as the location given by “Sathish polson”. She also claimed that they are al maya group of companies. So, thank you so much for these information guys. I Hope that our fellow job seekers find this site before attending an interview.
