The Careers UAE exhibition 2013 will take place from April 30 to May 2 in the Dubai World Trade Centre. There is a 20% increase in employer turnout this year.

The companies participating represent a broad cross-section of the economy, ranging from: ICT, finance, trade and commerce, oil and gas, hospitality, education, transportation, government, semi-government and more.

Some of the companies participating in Careers UAE Exhibition 2013 include: Al Futtaim, Bayt.com, Commercial Bank of Dubai, First Select, Go Glocal, Higher Colleges of Technology, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, the Presidential Guard, Tanmia, UAE University and Zayed University.

Major exhibitors at the event include: Adnoc, Al Rostamani group, Dewa, DP World, du, Dubal, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), EMAL, Emirates Group, etisalat, and RTA, to name a few.

Asking salaries of expatriates coming to UAE too high

Despite its near legendary reputation of being a high-paying destination, UAE companies may not be willing to pay unrealistic amounts to expats coming here for work.

Too many expats have high expectations and often make unrealistic salary demands, which are proving  difficult to meet.

According to recruitment experts in the country, the economy is in much better shape, but expat expectations are often misguided and in many cases out of touch with reality.

Quite often they are too high,” says Gareth Clayton, Director Finance and Banking at Charterhouse Partnership.  But, high expectations may not necessarily translate into what is finally offered.

Careers UAE Exhibition Launches New Job Portal

In a move designed to accelerate the pace of Emiratisation Careers UAE Exhibition has launched a user-friendly Job Portal (jobs.careersuae.ae) as an all-in-one hub where the needs of job seekers and recruiters intersect.

Many companies have already indicated their desire to post vacancies on the portal in the coming weeks. The web-based recruitment portal comes against the backdrop of the highly anticipated Careers UAE Exhibition taking place in Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from 30 April – 2 May.

ArabNet Developer Tournament Comes To Dubai on 20th April

After its successful rounds in Beirut, Amman, and Riyadh, the ArabNet Developer Tournament will showcase the UAE’s most talented web and mobile programmers in a series of coding challenges at the Dubai Round on April 20th 2013.

The competition, sponsored in the UAE by Du and hosted by Dubai Internet City, seeks to highlight young technical talent across the region and connect them with job opportunities in the growing digital sector which could be either as the technical co-founders for new startups, or the leads of technical teams in established companies.

The Dubai tournament will kick off at 8:00 AM on April 20th in Conference Halls 1 & 2 of Dubai Knowledge Village.

The top four winners from each of the Beirut, Amman, Riyadh, and Dubai tournaments will receive $5,000 of cash prizes and the opportunity to represent their countries in the final championship round at the ArabNet Digital Summit this June.

Video interviews on the rise in UAE

Job hunters preparing for an interview with a UAE firm should be brushing up on their screen skills.

That’s the picture that emerges from a new survey of the country’s HR directors, a quarter of whom say they are increasingly using video conferencing to select successful candidates for recruitment.

And a senior executive at hiring experts Robert Half says that candidates must be comfortable speaking to their potential employers via video link or risk missing out on that dream job.
